The dissertation on the artist's life and work will include a critical biography and the first-ever compilation of all primary sources. An accompanying catalogue of paintings will form the basis for discussions of attributions. The treatise will subject the works to a comprehensive stylistic analysis for the first time and place Vroom's artistic development in the context of his biography. For example, questions regarding the origins of the types of paintings he developed will be clarified and his influence on the further evolution of seascapes in the tonal phase will be examined.
